Well folks, let's get the housekeeping out of the way first: Jacob Misiorowski was never going deep into this one, and everybody in the building knew it going in. Three innings, four strikeouts, not a run allowed, ball still touching 102.7 on the last pitch he threw — and then he came out, right on schedule, exactly as planned. With the division long since wrapped up and six games left on the calendar, this was Milwaukee managing a resource, not nursing one. Circle it as a rest start and move on, because the rest of the night had bigger news anyway.
The bullpen took it from there and didn't blink — six more scoreless innings behind him, and Milwaukee walked out of Camden Yards with a 3-0 shutout win. It's the Brewers' second straight shutout, and the first time this club has strung together two in a row since July 2023. Whatever Misiorowski started, the pitching staff finished it in style.
Here's the number that actually matters tonight: with the win, Milwaukee improved to 98-58 — a new franchise record for wins in a season, with six games still to play. Whatever this team finishes at, it's already further than any Brewers club in the fifty-plus-year history of the franchise has gone. That's not a stat that resets in April. That's the new ceiling.
And the Brewers weren't done making history in the box score. Jackson Chourio became the first player in MLB history to record three 20-20 seasons before turning 23 — twenty home runs, twenty steals, three years running, before a lot of guys have finished figuring out the strike zone. Two records, one night, one very shortened start from the ace.
As for that ace: even in three innings, the ledger kept moving. Season ERA is down to 1.86, still MLB's best. His strikeout total climbs to 247 — also the major-league lead — and passes Corbin Burnes' 2022 mark (243) for second-most strikeouts in a single Brewers season; only Ben Sheets' 264 in 2004 still sits ahead of him. WHIP is down to 0.80, MLB-best, and his innings total is a new career high at 169.1. Not bad for a night he was scheduled to leave early.
